Caucasian Mineralnye Vody is a recognized balneological and mountain climatic resort in Russia. It is located in the very center of the North Caucasus on the northern spurs of the Main Caucasian Range. In 1992, the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody region was given the status of a specially protected eco-resort region of the Russian Federation. Due to its position among the ridges, the climate in this area is characterized by clear and calm weather; on average per year, the number of clear days in Kislovodsk is about 150. The main wealth of the resort is its mineral springs and deposits of therapeutic mud. Essentuki – balneological and mud resort. It is located in the south of the Stavropol Upland at an altitude of 650 m above sea level. The city is surrounded by parks on all sides. The main healing factor of Essentuki is salt-alkaline springs, the waters of which are used for drinking treatment, baths, irrigation, inhalations. For medicinal purposes, sulfide silt mud of the Tambukan Lake is also used.
Zheleznovodsk – this is a small and cozy city, the most picturesque of the four resorts of Kavminvod. It is surrounded by dense oak-hornbeam and beech forests, which create an amazingly beautiful forest park – the only one in this area of natural origin. About 1350 species of plants grow here, 125 of which are medicinal. The main therapeutic factor of the resort is more than 20 mineral springs, belonging to low-mineralized and carbonic hot and carbonate-sulphate sodium-calcium waters.
Pyatigorsk is located in the center of the Caucasian Mineral Waters at the foot of Mount Mashuk. For a rare variety of mineral springs concentrated in a small area, Pyatigorsk is sometimes called the “Natural Museum of Mineral Waters”. In total, there are more than 40 different mineral springs here. The main balneological wealth of the resort is hot hydrogen sulfide and radon waters. Along with balneological procedures, mud therapy, various methods of physiotherapy, climatotherapy, physiotherapy exercises, dosed walking, etc. are widely used. Pyatigorsk has the status of not only a resort city, but also the status of a historical monument. At different times these places were visited and lived by outstanding writers, poets, composers: L.N. Tolstoy, M.Yu. Lermontov, M.A. Balakirev, F.I. Chaliapin.
