San Diego State University Student Review

Very clean and well-guarded campus. Very nice location in the east of San Diego. Some of the facilities were quite old, but the bio lecture hall was brand new and had a perfectly equipped multimedia system. There are small food markets and eating areas with, for example, McDonalds, Panda-Express and Starbucks. A large bookstore with used books, a travel agency, a post office and much more. available. The connection of the campus to the S-Bahn line is currently under construction (ie the campus is partly under construction) but should be completed in 2005. The language institute is a bit overwhelmed in some things and doesn’t always know what to do, but they are very friendly and nice and try to sort everything out.

The place is just super nice. Very safe city. Everything was very clean. Great beaches, especially La Jolla. Perfect shopping. Bus traffic possible and only used by me. However, it is much better to have your own car because the buses take at least 45 minutes to get from the university to the city and you can get there in 15 minutes by car. The way to the beach takes about 1.5 hours by bus and only 20 minutes by car. Most of the distances are too far on foot. Good party life possible. Lots of pubs and clubs.

Walk to the lecture hall every morning. Cycling and skateboarding are prohibited. Listen to the lecture and then return home or to the next lecture. For lunch I went to the cafeteria in the Towers and after that it was mostly free time for me. In the exam times I then studied and in the non-exam times I went to the beach or the fitness studio. This is highly recommended and included in the price of the towers. But even for people who live in an apartment it only costs 14 dollars a month. The library is highly recommended for learning. There are nice single cabins with windows in which you can do a lot. Bringing a laptop is highly recommended. The computer centers are always very full and it is more pleasant to write your homework on a separate connection for the laptop or in the towers you have your own connection in the room, included in the price. After a written exam there is the possibility, if you are over 21, to have a beer in the Aztec Center.

I was staying at the University Towers and there was no way I would go back on another visit. There is a very nice apartment complex “Piedro del Sol” in which you can live in shared apartments. The University Towers have an incredible number of rules. And when you’re over 21, they’re very annoying. Absolute alcohol ban. No storage of alcohol allowed. Very bad food on the weekends, but somewhat variable during the week, although after twelve weeks you are fed up with it. No possibility to cook something yourself. Cleaning ladies only come every two weeks. You share the room with one person and the bathroom with four people. Quiet times are to be observed very strictly and are controlled by employed students who live on the floors. There was no food at all for four days on Thanksgiving. And when you’re in bed with the flu and a fever like me, you don’t even get tea. You can only leave if you are fine. The heating didn’t work. Was needed in December because there were only very thin duvets and all foreign students had to sleep in double and triple shifts of clothes. In an apartment in Piedro del Sol you pay significantly less rent. However, the catering is relatively expensive. But I don’t think that you spend more on it than you paid for the towers. since there were only very thin duvets and all foreign students had to sleep in double and triple shifts of clothes. It was a great semester. A good mix of studying and some great weekends with overnight stays in San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The city comes highly recommended. So did the university, although the places in the biology course were very difficult to get. The course itself is easier than in Germany. There are a lot of intermediate tests and exams that make it much easier for you to take the final exam. My tip: buy a car and rent an apartment. And I wouldn’t go there under 21. Then practically nothing is allowed. No alcohol, no pub, no club, not even buying beer for a private party. And one more thing, never mess with the police. They’re pretty aggressive on campus and take you into custody immediately.
