Georgia State Overview
Georgia was named after King George II of England (George Augustus, King of Great Britain and Ireland 1683-1760). It was one of the 13 colonies that rebelled against the British in the American Revolutionary War. Georgia became the 4th state to ratify the United States Constitution on January 2, 1788.
On January 21, 1861, Georgia seceded from the Union and was part of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War (1861-1865).
After the end of the Civil War, which the Southern States lost, Georgia was the last state to be admitted back into the Union on July 15, 1870.
Today, Georgia is the ninth largest city in the United States in terms of population. Major industrial companies are based in and around Atlanta. These include Coca Cola, Home Depot, UPS, Delta Air Lines, AFLAC, the news channel CNN. The greater Atlanta area (Metro Atlanta) is thus one of the most important economic regions in the south-east of the USA.

Geographical location
Georgia is located in the southeastern United States, bordering the states of Tennessee and South Carolina to the north, 100 miles (161 km) to the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Florida to the south, and Alabama to the west.
The north of the state lies in the Appalachian Blue Ridge Mountains, the mountain range that has a bluish tint when viewed from a distance. This coloring comes from the hydrocarbons that the forests emit into the atmosphere, laying a haze over the mountains that is characteristic of this area. In the northeast are the Great Smokey Mountains , which also belong to the Blue Ridge Mountains and were declared a national park by the US Congress in 1934.
The state’s highest point is Brasstown Bald (1458 m).

Savannah
Savannah is an attractive seaside town located almost on the border of Georgia and South Carolina in the United States of America. It was founded quite a long time ago, already in 1732 by the supporter of colonialism James Oglethorpe. It abounds with a number of historical monuments and interesting architectural gems. Currently, Savannah has around 150 thousand inhabitants.
Thanks to its seemingly mysterious atmosphere, the city has already become the backdrop for famous Hollywood films several times, such as the film Almost Perfect Crime or the Oscar-winning Forrest Gump. Savannah is a city known for a number of ghost stories, which are mostly remembered by visitors after dark.
The city is home to the Savannah College of Art and Design, which is the largest university of its kind in the US. It is not far from the tourist information center to the historical center of the city. In the historic district of Savannah, there is a rule that anyone who wants to build a new house here must build it in the old style of red brick, so that the appearance of the historic core is not disturbed and everything fits together.
While exploring the city, you will come across an interesting old fountain, which is said to be the most famous fountain in the entire United States and was modeled after the one on the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Forsyth Park, which is the largest park in the city, is a place of relaxation for local residents. There are tennis courts and a basketball court a short distance away. A trip to nearby Tybee Island can also be interesting.
In the center of Savannah you can find one of the city’s most expensive hotels, which served as a hospital and morgue during the war. There is also a memorial to the victims of Vietnam and a memorial to all the oppressed blacks who were brought here as slaves from Africa. The monument bears this inscription: “Together we were stolen, sold and bought from the continent of Africa. We boarded the slave ships together. We lay together – back to stomach – inside the slave ships, in our excrement and urine. Sometimes we died together and our dead bodies were thrown overboard together.
