Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. Its area is 9,251 km2. Most of the island is occupied by mountains. The capital is Nicosia.

The largest cities are Limassol (about 150 thousand inhabitants, including permanently residing foreigners), Larnaca (about 65 thousand inhabitants).

The official language in Cyprus is Greek. English is widely used, as well as French and German. The Turkish population speaks their native language.

The tourism industry is one of the main items of national income.
