Audemars Piguet, Cartier And Piaget Present Their Flat Novelties
To realize the complexity of a mechanical movement of only a few millimeters – an art which the representatives of the Haute Horlogerie have long been striving to achieve. At this year’s Geneva watchmaking fair, some brands again presented extra flat models, which hardly stand out from the wearer’s wrist. Flat Watch # 1: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extraflach
At this year’s Geneva watchmaker, the Swiss manufactory Audemars Piguet presentedtwo new color and material variants for their Royal Oak Extraflach watch following the new trend via Photionary. The collection is reminiscent of the first Royal Oak models from 1972. Designated by Audemars Piguet, the new models of the new models are made of yellow gold, complemented by an alternatively blue or gold dial with a “Petite Tapestry” pattern.
Inside the 39 millimeter measuring case – as with the first Royal Oak models in 1972 – themanufac- tured automatic caliber 2121 ticks . The work is 3.05 millimeters high, the Royal Oak Extraflach comes on the wrist only despite a striking appearance only to a height of 8.1 millimeters. The two models with date display are available in the new yellow gold case for € 54,200 each.
Flat Clock # 2: Cartier Drive De Cartier Extra-Flat
The Drive de Cartier extra-flat measures 6.6 millimeters in height and ranks thus in the ranks of the flat clocks. Cartier complements the collection Drive de Cartier launched last year with the wrist flatter. The gold case measures 38 by 39 millimeters and accommodates the hand-held caliber 430 MC. The flat time knife weighs about 45 grams in the white gold version limited to 200 pieces, the red gold model is available without limit and weighs two grams less. The former may name the sponsor for 16,000 euros, the latter is available for 14,900 euros.
Flat Watch # 3: Piaget 60 Years Altiplano 40 Mm
The Swiss manufactory Piaget is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its Altiplano collection this year. To mark the occasion, the brand launched the three-year anniversary model in various material and color versions with the 60 years Altiplano 40 mm. Piaget remains faithful to its role as a specialist for flat works: the Swiss watchmaker has the world record for the world’s thinnest mechanical watch ever since the 2013 Altiplano 38mm 900P,which is only 3.65 millimeters high . In the current 60-year-old Altiplano 40 mm model, the1203P manufac- turer calibrates with an automatic hoist, which is one of the flattest of its kind at 3.0 millimeters.
The blue dial version is surrounded by a rose gold case on the blue alligator strap, while the green dial and the uniform leather strap are equipped with a yellow gold case. Both models are limited to 260 pieces and each cost 25.500 euros. The 260 models of white gold with anthracite dial are available for 26,500 euros.
