Rolex launched on 5 August the new edition of the iconic Rolex Deepsea, model inspired by the sports diving, in a big party in the Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural history, New York. The new Deepsea was presented by the premiere of the documentary DEEPSEA 3D CHALLENGE that chronicles the history of dive James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar) in the Mariana Trench, held with the support of Rolex and the National Geographic. The event was attended by Cameron and personalities from the world of sports and cinema submarines.
On day 26 March 2012, James Cameron was 10,908 m deep in the Pacific Ocean, in a solo dive, the submersible DEEPSEA CHALLENGER. For this venture, Cameron had the support of Rolex who fabricated in just six weeks, an ultra resistant watch that would be attached to the expedition to descend to the depths of the Pacific. This watch only overcame the pressure and returned to the surface intact. To honor this achievement of Explorer and reaffirm close relationship with innovation and sports, Rolex produced a similar version to the clock used by Cameron for sport lovers and aficionados for adrenaline could also live their adventures.
The new Deepsea has a display “D-blue” with the colors of the ocean and presents a subtle gradient that goes from blue to black intense night, in reference to the deepest area of the seas, recalling how the expedition DEEPSEA CHALLENGE of James Cameron. In homage to the partnership between Rolex and James Cameron, the inscription «DEEPSEA» on the dial of the Watch has green color of the submersible as perceived under d ´ water. The Deepsea is waterproof to 3900 meters.
